>Pig Races
Yessir, that's right. One of the first nights we were in Montana, Alissa's mom wanted to check out the "famous" pig races
in Bear Creek. Just east of Red Lodge, you drive through some open, empty and starkly beautiful land, past the abandoned site of the
Smith Mine disaster, to Bear Creek, which is really a one horse town. The pig races are held Thurs to Sat night, and you can wager on
pigs through a complicated lottery system that takes some figuring out. Don't worry though, all the proceeds go to give local kids
scholarships. I must say, the track and starting gate are great, as are the racing pig names. Need I even say, the races are very
exciting. I must come back sometime in the winter for the indoor piglet races.
Look at this guy speeding around the corner!
Someone had a lot of fun coming up with all the piggy racing names. Some of my favorites: Waltzing Fatilda, Ham not Spam, Sausageawea, Hamlet, Makin' Bacon, Seapiglet, Raquel Belch, Swiney River, Barbie Q, Pig a Teriat, Ozzie Ozboar, Tomorrows Breakfast, Pig O War and Pig Newton.
Alissa and Susan, enjoying a pleasant evening at the pig races.
Cute piggies!
Of course the kids love it.
